Darren Rovell And His Unlimited Collection of Trash Takes Believes Naomi Osaka's Personality and Emotion Are "Bottom Rung" And Thus Stopping Her From Being a Marketing Giant
Apologies ahead of time for giving Darren Rovell a second of time on this Earth, but you come at Naomi Osaka like this I won't tolerate it one bit. Not sure why Rovell thinks he can delete such a trash take and everyone will forget about it.
Last night Osaka essentially dominated Serena Williams on the tennis court. Steam rolled her. Bulldozed. She was just better in every aspect of tennis, in a true passing of the torch situation. Tomorrow night she'll have a chance to take home her 4th grand slam title of her career at the age of just 23 years old. She's well on her way to becoming the next Serena Williams. Can she get to 23 slams? I mean at this rate there's no stopping her, but when it's all said and done she'll go down as one of the greats no doubt.
That's not good enough for Darren Rovell. A 23 year old global sports icon just doesn't cut it when it comes to marketability. Nah, she doesn't play with enough emotion and personality for him. Darren Rovell is out here judging personality and emotion. DARREN ROVELL. Guess we better just keep milking Serena until she can't serve the ball over the net. At least she screams every point right?
If you watched tennis for more than a second Rovell, you'd see Naomi Osaka does have a personality and it's awesome. She's maybe the most respectful and humble athlete there is. I tell ya what man...if you win slam after slam and handle it the way she does, people are going to love you. Be this incredibly likable person off the court and an absolute killer on it. I'm all about that. After she dismantled Serena and did her on court interview she had Twitter in the palm of her hand.
You really think her answer here as to how she returns Serena's serve shows zero personality?
Can't possibly fathom marketing that huh?
How about her being so humble after destroying her idol on the court like that?
Speaking more Rovell's language, what about her 1.9 million Instagram followers? Or 849k on Twitter? The fact that she has the audience of America and Japan as well? Nike has her locked up through 2025. In a 12 month span from 2019 to 2020 she racked up $37.4 million in prize money and endorsements making her the highest paid female athlete in history over the course of one year. Can't imagine her being marketable though.
You could really make the argument she's primed to be one of the most marketable athletes in the world in the very near future. Naomi Osaka is a superstar. Sure tennis isn't as big as it should be in the United States, but maybe she can change that. Regardless it's still massive internationally. Osaka is a monster on and off the court. She does not have a long way to go to become one of the most marketable athletes in the world. She's basically here.
You wanna talk bottom rung personality and emotion? Well…
